E3 2006: The Show
Stardate 060524, Episode 9
HELLO! It's me again, HIMEE!! Well, E3 has come and gone and all I've written about is my journey to get there. If you haven't read that yet, read episodes 6, 7 and 8. Now it's time to talk about the show.
So the great zombie prank was over and it was time to leave for San Diego. Pat and I had a 5 hour drive ahead of us. Pat said with enough beers he could make it there in 3 hours. I said no thanks, I had enough fun for one day. We made it to Samuel's house in one piece and relaxed for two days. Samuel is just like Pat, they mostly drank and played cards on the beach while I battled the locals to some Metroid Prime: Hunters on the Nintendo DS. Thursday started with me making Pat and Samuel some hang-over tea that Pat bought when we were in Chinatown. Pat was in bad shape, he threw up most of the night after he ate some Taco Bell. I tried to warn him. After the tea he felt pretty good, so we had doughnuts for breakfast. After a quick call to my grandma, I put on my Boba Fett costume while Pat did his hair up like Tom Cruise and of the three of us went to Los Angeles for the 2006 E3 video game show. SWEET!
On the way to the expo, Pat saw a Mission Impossible 3 billboard. He parked the mustang and asked me to take a cool picture of him in front of it. I guess he is getting pretty serious about this look-a-like thing since the reporters at the airport thought he was Tom Cruise. He got his hair cut and went out and bought a pair of new sunglasses. Pat says people will pay look-a-likes to come to parties and stuff. I take the picture and off we go again. We get to the show 9:58 A.M. We walk through the doors and walk up to the ticket booth. The ticket lady was pretty, so I told her I was here to collect my bounty. She rolled her eyes at me and said "$10 please." Just as I was about to hand her the money she looks at Pat and says "Oh my god, you're Tom Cruise!" Pat cracked a smile like the one in the picture above and said "Hey you got me." She jumped up and down and told Pat how much she loved his movies and asked for an autograph. After he signed her shirt, she handed him an all access pass and told him to go on through. Pat asked if Samuel and me could get some. She apologized and said it was against policy. Something about us not being important enough. He made up some story about how he was getting into the game industry and we were his partners, so it was okay to give us all access passes too. She handed Samuel and I the passes. SWEET!
So here we are, the video gaming mecca of... ah, video games. My new heaven. I grab a map and look it over. I point out the drink bar to Pat and tell him our passes will get us in if he needs a drink. To my surprise he says "Not right now, let's just walk around. People want want to see Tom Cruise." Okay. I spot the Sony booth and wander over. I saw the PS3 in action. What happen to the graphics that were going to kill the Xbox 360? The PS3 design looks kind of weird. The Sony Rep tells me that it will cost $600. I laughed and walked away. Please, $600 for a video game system, that's just silly. I wanted to get to the Nintendo booth as fast as possible, but it was slow moving. Pat was talking to booth babes and signing autographs. As I was waiting, a girl dressed like Mara Jade told me I had a nice costume. We had our picture taken. She was pretty, but said bye and walked away. Pat was talking about his movies, so I wandered off on my own and found paradise, the Nintendo booth.
I played a bunch of games, I was so happy. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was so much fun to play on the Wii. I love the realistic look of Link. He looks SWEET! and his sword is so shiny. I think the graphics are top notch. Link was so fun to control with the Wii-mote. I pulled back and thrust forward and Link did the same with his sword. This game is going to be so much fun. I can't wait till November!! YEA!! Super Paper Mario for the Game Cube was really, really fun.The graphics rock!!!! This game though has a special treat, you can play as Princess Peach! I couldn't believe it. After buying and beating Super Princess Peach for my DS, I've had a craving for more Peach action. I can't wait till this game comes out in December, so maybe I'll make a Princess Peach costume... I'm gonna ask my grandma to get me this game for christmas. I moved on to the next game which was Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii. The next gen graphics on this game are super SWEET! Just look at Mario and Pikachu running and holding hands. Sweet detail like I've never seen before. I wish I could run with them, it looks like so much fun. I had a hard time playing this game with the Wii-mote, but I'm sure I will get the hang of it once I play it more. I did shoot a fireball with Mario, it was SWEET! After that I played Lego Star Wars II for the Nintendo Game Cube. I love playing the first game because I loved playing with lego's when I was a kid. I still have them in a big box at home. Lego Star Wars II play the same as the first game, only this time you can build a custom character to play in the game. I put a wookie head on a slave Leia body. SWEET! This game covers the last three movies of the Star Wars saga. I want to play as Leia, girl power is so cool. Yeah, I'm going to have to buy this game because it's really cool and only play cool games.
So as I was about to walk away from the Nintendo booth, one of the reps walks up to me and says "I see you have the pass, have you played SMG yet?" I asked what it was. The man smiled and said follow me, so I did. He led me to the back of the Nintendo booth to a door guarded by a big bouncer guy. The guard looked at my pass and let me through. I entered a dimly lit room with a couch, TV and a Wii. The rep handed me the Wii-mote and said "Are you ready to play Super Mario Galaxy?" I couldn't believe it!!! Super Mario Galaxy. A new Mario game. I shook my head and he turned it on. SWEET! This game starts out with a little tutorial to get you use to the Wii-mote and controls and then you're off. You spin the Wii-mote in a circle and Mario does a twirl jump, which is pretty cool, because you need to do this in order to get from one asteroid to another. Yes, this game is in space and Mario navigates through different asteroid worlds. The graphics knocked my socks off. Hehe, always wanted to say that. This is thee game to get for the Wii when it comes out this November. After I finished the demo, the rep asked me what I though. All I could say was SWEET! The rep laughed and said that was what he wanted to hear.
So Nintendo remains my favorite video games console and video game maker. I looked around a the rest of the booths, but nothing could top Nintendo. It's hard to beat a master. I know I'll be buying Super Mario Galaxy and LoZ: Twilight Princess when I get my Wii in November. Pat and I made it home with no further troubles. I was sad that I had to come back, I wanted to stay at the Nintendo booth forever, but it was good to see grandma again. Till next issue. BYE!!
